  • 08/05/26 Update: After my review, I was contacted by Joe, the operations manager.

“08/05/26 Update: After my review, I was contacted by Joe, the operations manager. He immediately rectified the problem! He met with me personally to see the issues for himself; he then came back the next day and repaired everything! That’s how you do business and build a rapport to keep people coming back! Although my first experience wasn’t the best, Joe did a great job easing the tension and turning this situation around. I appreciate him and the team for all their hard work. Initially, everything started off good. Hunter was a pleasure to work with. He came out, explained the process of the build and addressed all of our questions and concerns. Things shifted when it came time to build the fence. It wasn’t properly communicated what we were wanting to the builders which caused confusion and frustration. The project took longer than we were told in the beginning. There were days the crew worked all day and then there were days they were gone within an hour and nothing was done. Other days they were late or didn’t show and nobody even bothered to call. While the fence looks good, we’re not satisfied with the finished project. I’ve voiced my concerns to no avail. I haven’t gotten replies to my text nor does anyone ever return my calls. There’s gaps in the fence, loose boards, etc. Due to how long it took to get the fence built, it seems like the crew was rushing and just threw the fence together. I was told at one point, those things would be fixed and that has not happened. I don’t feel like I should beg for what should already be expected when you pay for a service. Still a great company, but for what I paid the quality of work doesn’t add up.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Tallahassee and Leon County require permits for most fence installations. Standard residential fences and pool enclosures require permit applications, and fees and timelines vary by jurisdiction depending on whether your address falls within the city or the county. Whether your address falls under the City of Tallahassee or Leon County determines which building department handles your permit. Your local Superior Fence & Rail team will figure that out and manage the application.

Tallahassee is renowned for its moss-draped live oak canopy roads in Old St. Augustine, Miccosukee, Centerville, Meridian, and others, where massive root systems spread far into adjacent yards. These surface and near-surface roots can make fence post digging extremely challenging and can destabilize posts over time as roots continue to grow. Experienced Tallahassee fence contractors use hydraulic augers and adjust post placement to avoid root systems. Canopy Road corridors also have protections that may restrict above-ground changes visible from the road in some cases. Our crews assess every site for root conditions before planning the installation approach.

Florida Statute 515 requires all residential pools in Tallahassee to be enclosed by a barrier at least 4 feet tall. No opening may allow a 4-inch sphere through, and gates must be self-closing and self-latching, opening away from the pool. Pool fence permits and inspections are required before pool use; this requirement applies to all residential pools regardless of age. Pool permits in Tallahassee require a Notice of Commencement for projects valued over $5,000. Our team handles pool fence permitting as part of every installation.

Tallahassee's North Florida location, with hot, humid summers, significant rainfall, and the heavy tree canopy that defines the city's character, creates conditions where moisture and shade interact to accelerate wood degradation. Properties under heavy oak canopy retain more moisture near fence posts, speeding up rot in untreated wood. Vinyl is the most practical residential fence material for Tallahassee's shaded, humid conditions. Cedar and pressure-treated pine are the recommended wood options when natural materials are preferred. Aluminum suits decorative applications and pool enclosures well. Our team will help you choose the right material for your specific yard conditions.

Tallahassee is home to Florida State University, Florida A&M University, and Tallahassee Community College, which creates a significant rental housing market in neighborhoods near campus where informal fence standards vary from owner-occupied areas. Established family neighborhoods like Killearn Estates and Golden Eagle have active HOAs with formal fence guidelines covering materials and height. Near-campus neighborhoods have city zoning rules but less HOA governance. Florida law changed in 2023 and 2024 to limit some HOA backyard restrictions, but fence rules covering materials, height, and placement remain within HOA authority. Your local Superior Fence & Rail team is familiar with Tallahassee's diverse neighborhoods and can help you navigate what applies to your property.

Tallahassee Fence Company

Trusted customer care, experienced professionals, and proven-quality materials

Tallahassee doesn’t sit flat the way most of Florida does. The terrain rolls, the soil shifts between red clay and sandy loam block to block, and the summer rain comes hard and often, sometimes more than five feet of it a year. None of that is a problem when the crew installing your fence actually accounts for it. Superior Fence & Rail builds every project around how Leon County’s ground and weather actually behave, not a one-size-fits-all approach pulled from flatter parts of the state. That’s what makes us a fence company in Tallahassee worth trusting with the details, not just the finished look.

We train our crews, manage communication from the first call forward, and use fence products built to handle Florida’s heat cycles and seasonal rain. Your project shouldn’t feel like a gamble.

Fence Company Near Me in Tallahassee

Spend a Saturday driving from Killearn Estates to Betton Hills and you’ll notice how different the lots are. Lot size, canopy cover, the way properties sit relative to neighbors, it all shifts block by block. Killearn Lakes and the planned communities up northeast are a different conversation entirely from the older midtown streets around Myers Park. South Wood operates on its own rhythm. Golden Eagle has deer. The point is that “Tallahassee” covers a lot of ground, and we work across it. Ox Bottom Manor, Summerbrooke, and the communities further out in Leon County where the tree lines get thick and the lot lines get complicated are all places we’ve worked. Wherever your property sits, we’re not driving in from somewhere unfamiliar.

Tallahassee Fence Contractor

Something most homeowners don’t think to ask about is how posts are set. In parts of northeast Leon County, the soil drains fast and shifts differently than the heavier clay you run into on the southwest side of town. The technique matters, and it’s not something you can fake your way through. As a fence contractor in Tallahassee that has worked this specific market, we account for those conditions before the crew ever picks up a post-hole digger.

HOA communities across this market have their own approval requirements, and navigating those correctly from the start is something our crews have done many times over. Setback rules vary. Some neighborhoods want documented material specs before they’ll sign off. Getting that piece right before anything goes in the ground is how projects stay on schedule. Our installers aren’t rotated in from a general labor pool; they’re trained specifically for this work. That consistency is what keeps the finished product looking the way it should.

Tallahassee Fence Builder

The estimate visit isn’t a sales call. It’s a working appointment. Someone walks your property, notes the grade changes, identifies where utilities run, and figures out what your fence actually needs to do. Containing a dog is a different conversation than adding privacy from a neighboring property, which is again different from satisfying an HOA’s specific material and height requirements. Once the scope is clear, we put together accurate measurements and a detailed estimate, then move into material selection with options that fit your goals and your budget. We keep inventory ready for Tallahassee projects so there’s no wait on materials once you’re ready to schedule.

Tallahassee Fence Installation

Our fence installation process is built around what happens before the crew ever arrives. The site gets reviewed ahead of time. Materials are confirmed and loaded before anyone drives out. The crew arrives knowing what the day looks like and how to handle the specific conditions on your property. Most of what goes wrong on a fence job happens in the first hour, when a crew shows up without everything they need and realizes something wasn’t accounted for in the estimate. That’s exactly what this process is built to prevent.

You’ll get a clear heads-up on timing before install day. When the crew is on site, they work efficiently and leave the yard in good shape when they’re done. No mystery about what’s happening, no debris piled in the corner.

Tallahassee Fence Financing

Sticker shock is real. A fence that covers a full backyard, uses quality materials, and gets professionally installed can be a significant line item, and most people aren’t holding a specific fund for it. Our fence financing options let you spread that cost over time so the project doesn’t have to wait until the timing is perfect. Before you commit to anything, there’s a financing calculator on that page that lets you run the numbers and get a sense of what monthly payments might look like. It won’t hit your credit. No pressure, just actual information you can use to plan.

Tallahassee Fencing Options

Vinyl has become the default choice in a lot of Tallahassee’s HOA-governed neighborhoods, and it earns it. It handles moisture well, keeps its color through years of direct Florida sun, and most architectural review boards have already pre-approved it. Easy decision for a lot of homeowners. Wood is a different story. Cedar and pressure treated pine both have their place here, but they’re not interchangeable. Cedar costs more upfront. In this humidity, that premium comes back to you over time because it resists rot and insects without needing chemical treatment. Pressure treated pine works fine, holds up reasonably well, and costs less, but it asks more of you in terms of upkeep.

For properties where visibility matters, pool enclosures, front yards, and commercial lots in particular, aluminum and steel fencing do what wood can’t. Trex fencing lands somewhere in the middle. It reads like wood but holds up more like a composite, which works well for homeowners who’ve dealt with wood rot before. We also install chain link, pool fence, dog fence, railing, and gate and entry systems. Take a look at our fence styles to see options across every material type and start narrowing down what fits your property.

Superior Fence & Rail Wants to Be Your Tallahassee Fence Installation Contractor

A fence project has more moving parts than most people expect going in. HOA approvals, permit questions, property line confirmation, material choices that have to hold up through ten Florida summers. Working through all of that takes experience in this specific market, not just fencing experience in general. Our crew has been through it in neighborhoods across the area and knows exactly where things tend to stall. Ready to move forward? Contact our Tallahassee team to request a free on-site estimate and we’ll come out, walk the property with you, and put together a quote based on what we actually find.
