  • Summary: quality product, good follow-through in the end.

“Summary: quality product, good follow-through in the end. Estimator quoted a price, I picked them, then (inexperienced) estimator had to eat crow and come back to me with a price increase after the fact. I accepted and was happy in the end although for a minute there I felt Shanghaied. My job was TOUGH and I acknowledge that. They were well capitalized and organized.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Memphis and Shelby County require permits for fence installations through your local building and code enforcement office. Properties in Memphis's locally designated historic districts, including Victorian Village and South Main, require a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Memphis Landmarks Commission before fence installation, which adds 30 to 60 days to the project timeline. Planning ahead and contacting the Commission early is important if your property falls in one of these areas. Shelby County and Memphis City permits are something we pull on every build we do here. If your property is in a historic district, we know the Landmarks Commission process well. Your local Superior Fence & Rail team will confirm the steps for your address.

Victorian Village is one of Memphis's oldest residential neighborhoods, with grand Victorian-era homes along Adams and Jefferson Streets near downtown dating from the mid-19th century, listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972. The Memphis Landmarks Commission reviews exterior changes in Victorian Village, South Main, and Beale Street for design compatibility. Beale Street has the strictest controls of Memphis's historic areas. Chain link and certain modern vinyl styles are typically inconsistent with historic district standards in these neighborhoods. Before selecting materials for any project in these areas, confirming requirements with the Landmarks Commission is essential.

Memphis's position on the Mississippi River creates significant flood zone areas throughout Shelby County, particularly in lower-lying western portions of the city. Projects near the Mississippi River bluffs may also have slope stability requirements beyond standard fence rules. The Wolf River watershed, which drains into the Mississippi through North Memphis, has enhanced water quality treatment requirements for stormwater. Fence installation near any of these waterways or in designated flood zones requires additional review. Your local Superior Fence & Rail team can help you navigate these requirements based on your address.

Memphis's Mississippi River Delta location brings extremely hot, humid summers, significant rainfall, and the moisture-laden air common to the Mid-South. These conditions accelerate wood rot in untreated materials and rust in unprotected metals. Vinyl is the most popular residential fence material in Memphis for its resistance to heat, humidity, and insects without maintenance. Cedar and pressure-treated pine are the preferred wood choices. Aluminum is used in decorative applications. Keeping wood boards elevated slightly off grade helps prevent moisture damage at the base, something our Memphis crews factor into every wood installation.

Memphis's established East Memphis neighborhoods and the adjacent city of Germantown, one of Tennessee's wealthiest communities, frequently have active HOA governance covering fence height, materials, and style. Germantown's many established neighborhoods require HOA architectural committee approval before any fence installation, often specifying cedar or aluminum and prohibiting chain link. Deed restrictions in East Memphis neighborhoods like Chickasaw Gardens are also strictly enforced. Reviewing applicable HOA rules and deed restrictions before purchasing any fence materials is the essential first step. Your local Superior Fence & Rail team works with HOAs throughout the Memphis metro and can help you navigate the approval process.

Memphis Fence Company

Honest communication, skilled fencing experts, and reliable materials

Plenty of fencing companies will take your call and send someone out. Fewer will tell you what’s actually going on once the job starts. Superior Fence & Rail was built around the gap between those two things. As a fence company in Memphis, we stay in contact from the day you request an estimate through the moment the crew leaves your yard, and we don’t consider a job finished until you’ve walked the property and signed off on it.

Our team knows the Memphis market. The summer humidity here is hard on certain materials, HOA covenants in planned communities across Shelby County vary more than most homeowners expect, and getting a fence permitted on properties near older lot lines can surface complications fast. We come prepared for all of it.

Fence Company Near Me in Memphis

We run jobs all over the metro. Germantown, Collierville, Bartlett, and Cordova keep us busy on the east side. In the city itself, we’ve worked Chickasaw Gardens, Harbor Town, Cooper-Young, and Central Gardens more times than we can count. Lakeland and Millington are regular stops too. Property owners in unincorporated Shelby County call us when they can’t get a straight answer from a local outfit, and if your lot is over the river near West Memphis, get in touch and we’ll tell you what we can do.

Memphis Fence Contractor

A Monday in Midtown might mean navigating tree roots that have been growing into an old fence line for thirty years. Tuesday could be a Germantown subdivision where the HOA sent back the first contractor’s material sample. Working as a fence contractor in Memphis across that range is just what the job looks like here, and our crews don’t find it surprising.

Permit requirements inside Memphis city limits and those in surrounding Shelby County municipalities don’t always line up. Some suburbs run their own review process on top of county requirements. We sort that out before the first post goes in the ground.

Memphis Fence Builder

The first thing our Memphis fence builder team does is come to your property. Not a phone call quote, not an online questionnaire. We walk the lot with you, take actual measurements, and ask what the fence actually needs to do — keeping a dog in, blocking a sightline from the street, or pulling a clean perimeter around a commercial site. The written estimate we put together after that visit reflects your actual lot conditions, not a generic square footage guess. We stock commonly used materials locally so your job doesn’t sit in a queue waiting on a delivery.

Memphis Fence Installation

Nobody wants a crew showing up on their property without knowing what to expect. Before anyone arrives, you’ll know the start date, the approximate time, and exactly what needs to happen on your end beforehand — clearing the fence line, marking utilities, moving anything leaning against the old structure. That conversation is how fence installation stays predictable instead of something that disrupts your week.

The crew works clean. Landscaping gets protected where it’s possible. Everything gets picked up before they leave. Memphis afternoons in July and August are what they are, and our teams plan around that — starting early, watching the radar, finishing what they started before packing up. You walk the job with them at the end. If something’s off, we fix it before the day is done.

Memphis Fence Financing

A new fence is a real investment, and there’s no reason the full cost has to come out of pocket all at once. Our fence financing options let you spread the project cost over time so you can move forward with what your property actually needs instead of a scaled-back version of it. Ask about financing when you schedule your estimate. The process is low-pressure and straightforward.

Memphis Fencing Options

Vinyl is what most HOA communities in Germantown and Collierville end up requiring, and for good reason. Consistent look across the neighborhood, no painting, no rotting, and it holds up in Tennessee humidity without the deterioration you’d see from untreated wood after a few summers. Aluminum is a different product solving a different problem. It’s the right call around pools, or anywhere the goal is a defined boundary without blocking the view. Chain link covers a lot of ground for the budget, which makes it the go-to for commercial perimeters and rural acreage.

Wood takes more thought here than it would in a cooler climate. Pressure-treated pine survives better than untreated lumber, but plan on maintenance or it’ll show its age faster than you’d like. Cedar is worth considering for older neighborhoods like Cooper-Young or Evergreen — it resists moisture and insects better than pine and doesn’t need to be painted to stay stable. Trex gives you the warm look of wood with composite underneath, which sidesteps most of the upkeep conversation entirely. Beyond materials, we also handle pool fencing, dog fencing, deck and stair railing, and gate systems on both residential and commercial properties. Browse all available fence styles to find what fits your property.

Superior Fence & Rail Wants to Be Your Memphis Fence Installation Contractor

The homeowners who’ve called us after a bad experience somewhere else aren’t shopping on price the second time. They want a crew that does what they say, picks up the phone when something comes up, and doesn’t leave them guessing about the timeline. We know these neighborhoods, know the HOA expectations that come with a Germantown or Collierville address, and know how to work a Midtown lot that hasn’t been touched since the 1970s. Small residential job or a commercial run off I-240, it doesn’t change how we approach the work. Contact our Memphis team to request a free estimate and get started.

Irrigation Considerations

Sprinkler system consists of a series of PVC tubes that run underground. PVC is a good material because it’s lightweight and easy to install, but it’s also difficult to locate and prone to damage.  This happens frequently during fence installation because sprinkler lines usually run along the same property line where you want your fence installed.  Unless your fence is installed before your sprinklers – accidental breaks in the pvc lines are unavoidable.  The best thing you can do is be prepared, and have an irrigation repair company on hand.
