Frequently Asked Questions

Many neighborhoods in Charlotte have active HOAs that set rules about the height, style, color, and placement of fences. Most of the time, you need to get permission before you build. It's important to read your HOA's rules and architectural guidelines before choosing a fence design because these rules can be stricter than city code.

Charlotte has a Fence and Wall Certificate process, and most residential fences need to be checked to make sure they are the right height and can be seen from the street, especially in front yards and near corners. In many zoning situations, fences in the back and side yards can be taller than fences in the front yard. However, the exact limits depend on your lot type and local laws, so it's a good idea to check before you build. In many cases, if you are simply replacing an existing fence in the same location and at a similar height new permit may not be required.

Charlotte's soil is heavy in clay and has rolling grades. Stepped or racked fence panels and properly set concrete footings can help keep the fence from shifting and leaning over time. Aluminum and vinyl panels work well on slopes because they can follow the grade more smoothly. Wood, on the other hand, may need more frequent adjustments and upkeep in these situations. Our fence fabrication options allow us to customize panels to your property's specific dimensions, so your fence follows the natural slope of your yard while remaining strong and visually consistent.

Charlotte has rules about visibility triangles that help keep drivers' lines of sight clear. These rules are stricter for corner lots when it comes to fence height and placement near intersections. If your property backs up to greenways, utility easements, or common areas, there may be extra rules about how far back it has to be or how solid fences can be, so it's important to check both city code and HOA rules.

Historic and established neighborhoods in Charlotte often favor classic designs such as picket, ornamental aluminum, or understated privacy fences that complement older architecture and mature trees. The best approach is to match your fence height and transparency to neighborhood norms, then confirm that your chosen style, color, and placement satisfy both city regulations and any applicable HOA or historic design standards.

  • Would definitely utilize them again!

The team did a phenomenal job! From initial quote, the process was very professional, communicative, and helpful. Kenny even went to the extent to add our two dogs by name to the sketch for the fence project. They were very quick to respond to my questions and assisting with getting HOA approval for our fence project. When the team arrived to put the fence in, they made quick work of the project, kept the backyard clean, talked through any issues that arose with us and made sure we were happy with the work throughout the process. Would definitely utilize them again

Elevating Your Monroe Curb Appeal

Whether you’re living in a historic home near downtown Monroe or a new build in a sprawling Union County subdivision, your fence is your first line of defense and your most visible asset. We don’t just install fences; we engineer them to withstand the red clay, sudden summer storms, and high humidity of the Piedmont.

As a dedicated Monroe fence company, we understand the local landscape. We know that a fence isn’t just a boundary—it’s what keeps your golden retriever safe and your pool area private.

The Superior Tech Behind Every Post

We believe a fence should be “one and done.” That’s why we’ve moved away from standard, off-the-shelf products to a proprietary manufacturing process:

  • Site-Built Wood Fencing: We don’t use pre-fab panels that leave gaps on uneven Monroe hills. We build on-site, board by board, using heavy-duty lumber. Our pickets are backed by a 15-year warranty against rot and termites, while our posts and rails carry a lifetime guarantee.
  • HeartWood & Vinyl Strength: Our vinyl fences are 43% thicker than the industry standard. Featuring StayStrong rails, these panels are designed to hold up against high winds without bowing. Plus, our SolarShield technology acts like a permanent sunscreen, preventing the “yellowing” or “chalking” common in cheaper materials.
  • Salt-Spray Tested Aluminum: Our American-made aluminum fences have survived 3,000 hours of continuous salt spray testing. If they can handle that, they can handle a Union County summer with ease.

Our No-Hassle Installation Guarantee

We’ve heard the horror stories of “no-show” fence contractors. That’s why we’ve flipped the script. As your Monroe fence company, we prioritize a “minimal impact” installation.

  • CNC Fabrication: We use computer-controlled routers to ensure every piece of your fence fits perfectly before we even arrive at your home.
  • The Single-Day Standard: We aim for one-day completions. Our crews arrive fully stocked with all materials and “buffer” supplies to handle unexpected site conditions, ensuring we don’t have to leave your yard half-finished.
  • Local Expertise: We are well-versed in Monroe fence building codes and HOA requirements. We ensure your pool fence or privacy barrier meets every local standard, saving you from future headaches with the city or your neighbors.

Flexible Financing for Your Peace of Mind

A quality fence shouldn’t drain your savings. We’ve partnered with over 13 lenders to offer Monroe fence financing tailored to your budget. With loans up to $100,000 and rates as low as 4.99% for qualified borrowers, we make it easy to secure your property now and pay over time. We even work with lenders who accept FICO scores as low as 500, ensuring everyone in our community has access to a safe, secure yard.

Don’t settle for a fence that will need replacing in three years. Experience the precision, power, and professionalism of Superior Fence & Rail’s Monroe fence contractors. Get Your Free fence estimate today! Call us at (704) 862-4941.

Installing a fence requires a special building permit in most cities and countries.  Requirements and fees can be very different depending on your location. Typically, a contractor or an owner of the house must present their municipality with a copy of the property survey, along with the specifications and plans for an intended fence. Permit fees generally range between $150 and $400.

Irrigation Considerations

October 24, 2017

Sprinkler system consists of a series of PVC tubes that run underground. PVC is a good material because it’s lightweight and easy to install, but it’s also difficult to locate and prone to damage.  This happens frequently during fence installation because sprinkler lines usually run along the same property line where you want your fence installed.  Unless your fence is installed before your sprinklers – accidental breaks in the pvc lines are unavoidable.  The best thing you can do is be prepared, and have an irrigation repair company on hand.
